Law no. 18/2024 was published today, introducing significant changes to the existing legal framework for the retention of metadata relating to electronic communications for the purposes of criminal investigations in Portugal, amending Law no. 32/2008 of July 17, to bring it into line with Constitutional Court Rulings nos. 268/2022 and 800/2023 and the Law on the Organization of the Judicial System. This Briefing highlights some of the main innovations brought in by the aforementioned Law.
